J-11B/BG/BS

The major variant of J-11 is J-11B, a modernized Su-27SK equipped with Chinese Type 1493 PD radar, a glass cockpit, PL-8/12 missile system and WS-10D engines. An image released in July 2020 indicated the naval J-11BHs started to wear a new light gray two-digit code number below the canopy. Some were recently upgraded to the BG standard (AESA radar) with a silver colored radome.

Su-30MKK/MK2

All 38 Su-30MKK fighter bombers China ordered in 1999 were delivered within one year from December 2000 to late 2001. This relatively fast pace demonstrated the urgency of PLAAF's requirement for a modern fighter bomber. The table below summarizes all examples identified so far. Additional 38 Su-30MKKs ordered in 2001 were delivered in 2003. 24 Su-30MK2 maritime fighter bomber were acquired by PLAN in 2004. One Su-30MK2 (#01) crashed in April 2002 and was later replaced. All naval Su-30MK2s were transferred to PLAAF by early 2023.

JH-7A

A PLAN JH-7A was patrolling over the East China Sea. More JH-7As were produced after surplus Spey MK202s (~70) were imported from UK in 2001. The JH-7A production ended in 2016. Some naval JH-7A started to carry a new two-digit light gray code number in 2021. All naval JH-7As were transferred to PLAAF starting early 2023.

J-10/10A/10S

The serial production of J-10 started in 2003 after 18 years of development. Up to 250 J-10/10A/10Ss are in service with PLAAF and PLAN. Currently J-10S is still in production, powered by the indigenous WS-10B engine. All naval J-10AH/SHs were transferred to PLAAF in early 2023.

J-15/15S/15DH

The first batch of 10 J-15s entered the service with the PLAN Carrier Fighter Group stationed onboard the aircraft carrier Liaoning.  These aircraft were painted with a PLAN flag as well as a "flying shark" insignia. A total of  four batches were produced for the two aircraft carriers Liaoning and Shandong. A recent image (August 2022) indicated that the missing numbering gap of 39-5x has been assigned to the newly acquired J-15S trainers. Recent images (November 2024) indicated that several 9x code numbers were assigned to the J-15DH EW aircraft.
